AIG helps customers to make smart health choices
Tuesday 27 August 2019
AIG Life has added a virtual GP and health service to all of its individual and group protection insurance offerings, to enable families and employees to take control of their health and wellbeing.
The online tool called Smart Health gives all AIG individual customers and group scheme members unlimited, tailored support on demand and at no extra cost via their smartphone, tablet or PC. The service allows customers to manage general non-critical physical and mental health needs as well a chronic complex care with one global provider.
The service is provided by Teladoc, which already provides the Best Doctors second opinion service to AIG’s individual customers.
Sue Helmont, Marketing Director at AIG Life, said:
“AIG celebrates its 100th birthday this year. We wanted to ‘pay it forward’ to the one million people we already look after as well as new customers, so everybody has an opportunity to easily manage their health and wellbeing and live a long and healthy life.
“Our unlimited access to Smart Health is for everyone, no matter when they became insured by us or through which distribution channel it was bought. And because we believe in investing in our own team, we’ve given all AIG Life employees access to the service too.”
Customers can book 30 minute appointments to speak to a GMC-registered UK-based GP at any time and from anywhere in the world through the Smart Health app to get medical advice, a private prescription or a private referral.
The Smart Health portal also offers personalised help to individuals and their immediate families who want to create sustainable, long-term health and wellbeing habits. It allows them to:
- have their medical case reviewed by experts from across the world
- speak to someone to get mental health support from specialist teams
- build a fitness programme
- get specialist nutritional advice and build weekly meal plans, and
- get an online health check and report with tips on how to manage their health, nutrition or specific conditions
Nick Erskine, Head of Intermediary Sales at AIG Life, said:
“We know the value of Best Doctors for our Individual protection customers and the positive impact that access to a specialist can have on the outcome of a diagnosis or a change in treatment. What AIG now offers is a service that makes their insurance valuable every single day.”
Group Protection and Smart Health
Smart Health is likely to be a strong benefit to businesses and employers in particular, says Lee Lovett, Group Protection MD at AIG Life, as it empowers employees to manage their health so they can enjoy a happier, more productive life.
“The addition of Smart Health to our full range of Group Protection products is a game changer both for our industry and for employers,” said Lovett. “Providing 24-hour access to a private GP for all of the employees we insure is unique in the Group market and should make a real difference to our customers on a day-to-day basis.
“Not only is it convenient and easy for the employee’s whole family to use, it could also be a strong recruitment and retention tool for employers. It should also help to reduce absenteeism due to illness or delays in arranging medical appointments and increase positive sentiment towards employers who demonstrate they care about their employees’ wellbeing,” he added.
Intermediaries and Employee Benefits consultants who want to learn more about Smart Health can find a range of tools and guides explaining the service on www.aiglife.co.uk.
